Axie Infinity Breeding Tool
ABOUT THE PROJECT

Axie Infinity is a blockchain-based play-to-earn game where players collect, breed, battle, and trade fantasy creatures called Axies. Each Axie carries a complex genetic profile across six body parts, three gene layers, and nine classes, producing over one billion possible builds. The Axie Breeding Tool was built by BreederDAO (now Sovrun) to give breeders a way to produce high-quantity, hyper-specific Axies at scale for players and guilds worldwide.

About the work

Challenge

Breeding competitive Axies was a high-stakes guessing game. The genetics system is deep: six body parts, each with dominant, recessive, and minor recessive genes, across nine classes. Most breeders were making decisions blind or relying on spreadsheets. Meanwhile, powerful Axies were priced out of reach for average players, with only around 1,311 sure-win builds available on the marketplace as of 2022. Gaming guilds were submitting requests for specific builds, and breeders had no efficient way to optimize parent pairings against those requirements.

Approach

I designed the entire platform experience, from login to the final step of publishing bred Axies as NFTs. The core interaction flow had to turn a deeply complex genetic system into something a breeder could execute in under three minutes. The platform pulls parent Axies from the breeder's Web3 wallet and generates optimized breeding combinations based on guild requests. I added the ability to experiment with pairings by simply inputting another Axie's ID, giving users control without adding complexity. The interface was designed around a five-click workflow: select parents, review genetic output, adjust if needed, confirm, publish. Every screen was built to surface only what matters at each step, keeping the underlying data accessible but never overwhelming.

Outcome

The Breeding Tool shipped as a functional product within the BreederDAO ecosystem, enabling breeders to produce competition-ready Axies in five clicks or under three minutes per request.

It streamlined a process that previously required deep manual research and guesswork, making high-performance breeding accessible to a wider base of players and guilds.
